History

Versatile Measuring Instruments originally supplied products to the North American nuclear power industry as “Thermovolt” in the 1950’s, producing panel meters and other I&C components for Canada’s NRU (national research universal  reactor).

Sigma Instruments purchased the company in 1969 and merged it into their “International Instruments” meter manufacturing group as AECL continued to build reactors at Pickering, Bruce, and Darlington.

In 1983 the company was bought by its Canadian management, and became Versatile Measuring instruments. VMI now has instrumentation in all CANDU reactors in Canada and internationally as well as many American reactors.

Under new management since 2005, the company has focused on expanding its quality assurance scope to satisfy both the Canadian and American nuclear markets. Besides the company’s extensive array of qualified panel meters and other nuclear instrumentation, Versatile has developed a solid reputation for I&C component design, manufacture and integration for safety and non-safety related applications.

Utilizing the Amidyne Group’s extensive internal development resources and Strategic Alliances, VMI is able to provide replacement component design services in a timely and cost effective manner under any required nuclear quality assurance program.

Lisle-Metrix

Lisle-Metrix (a division of AquaMetrix Inc.) has been designing, manufacturing and qualifying Pressure Retaining components and I&C components for the nuclear power industry since the 1950’s.

Nuclear conductivity systems, relays, timer relays, and level controls are some of the products that Lisle-Metrix has supplied to CANDU reactors around the world over the past five decades.

Operating under a CSA Z299.2 quality assurance program augmented by parts of N286.1 (procurement) and N286.2 (engineering) the company also has Certificates of Authorization from TSSA for the design, fabrication and construction of Class 1,2,3 and 6 pressure retaining components in nuclear and non-nuclear applications (see our QA page for details).

Besides its extensive nuclear product line, Lisle-Metrix offers a variety of nuclear qualification and engineering services, including:

Lisle sells its nuclear products into the United States nuclear market through its sister company Versatile Measuring Instruments Inc. which operates under a 10CFR50 Appendix B program, with 10CFR Part 21 reporting responsibility.
